Privacy Policy

This policy covers Jyotisha — Panditji ka Hindu Calendar (the Android app) and the website jyotishapath.in. It explains, in plain language, what data we collect, why, and what control you have over it.

The short version

• The app works without an account. One is created only if you choose to sign in.
• A chart needs a birth date, time and place. That is the core data we handle.
• To keep the app free we show ads (Google AdMob and Meta Audience Network). We never sell your data, and birth details never go to advertisers.
• The app does not request access to your phone's location, contacts, camera or files.
• You can delete your account and all its data from inside the app, instantly.

What we collect

1. Birth details (profiles)

To view a chart for yourself or someone else, you enter a name, date of birth, time of birth and place of birth. Without an account this is stored only on your phone. When you sign in it is also saved to our server so it follows you to another phone.

If you add someone else's birth details, please make sure you have their permission to do so.

2. Account

When you sign in we keep your email address, display name and, for email sign-up, a hash of your password (never the password itself). With Google Sign-In we receive your email, name and a stable identifier from Google; we never see your Google password.

3. Things you create in the app

Guna Milan (match) reports, journal entries and your preferences (language, chart style, notification settings). With an account these are saved to the server; without one, only on the phone.

4. Device information

When signed in, the app registers a device record: phone model, Android version, app version, language, time zone and whether notifications are allowed. We use this to show the panchang in the right time zone and to understand problems.

5. Usage and crash statistics

We use Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics and Performance Monitoring) to learn which features are used and where the app crashes. This includes screens viewed, features tapped, app version, device type and approximate country — never birth details or email. When signed in, these statistics carry an opaque account number so we can count one person on two phones as one person.

6. Server logs

When the app talks to our server, standard technical logs are produced (IP address, time, request path). These are kept briefly for security and debugging.

7. Data collected by advertising SDKs

The app includes the Google AdMob and Meta Audience Network SDKs. To show and measure ads they collect your device's advertising ID (Android Advertising ID), IP address, device and app information, and how you interact with ads (views, taps). This data goes directly to those companies and is governed by their own privacy policies. See “Advertising” below.

How we use it

• To calculate your chart, dasha, transits, panchang and match reports.
• To keep your profiles and settings in sync across devices.
• To deliver the reminders you turn on (for example the daily panchang). These are scheduled on your phone itself.
• To keep the app stable and fast and to understand which features matter.
• To respond when you write to us for support.
• To show ads that keep the app free.

We do not use your account data or birth details for advertising, profiling or automated decisions, and we do not sell or rent them to anyone. The advertising SDKs only see the device-level data described above.

Who we share it with

Only the service providers needed to run the app: Google Firebase (sign-in, analytics, crash reports), GeoNames (birth-place search — only the place name you type), Google AdMob and Meta Audience Network (ads), Cloudflare and OVH (hosting, in the EU).

Astrological calculations run with the open-source VedAstro engine on our own server; no data leaves us for that. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.

Advertising

The app is free and supported by advertising. Ads are served by the SDKs of two third-party networks:

• Google AdMob — Google Privacy Policy · How Google uses data from apps that use its services

These networks may show personalised ads based on your device's advertising ID and activity. We do not give them your name, email, birth details or anything you create in the app. Where the law requires it (for example in the EU/UK), the app asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown.

To opt out of personalised ads: Android Settings → Google → Ads → “Delete advertising ID” or “Opt out of Ads Personalisation”. Ads will still appear, but will not be based on your interests.

How long we keep it

• Account, profiles, reports, journal and preferences — for as long as your account exists. On deletion they are removed immediately; backups roll over within 30 days.
• Device records — removed when the account is deleted, or pruned after long inactivity.
• Firebase usage statistics — Google's standard retention, at most 14 months.
• Server logs — a few weeks.
• Data collected by the ad SDKs — under Google's and Meta's own policies; we do not hold it.
• Data on your phone — until you uninstall the app or clear its data.

Your rights and controls

• View and edit — any profile, report or entry can be edited or deleted from the Profile tab.
• Delete your account — from “Delete account” in the Profile tab, or by email as described on the account-deletion page. Everything is removed.
• Ask for a copy of your data — write to [email protected]; we respond within 30 days.
• Notifications — can be turned off any time in the app or in Android settings.
• Use it without an account — the core features work signed out, and your data stays on the phone (apart from place search, usage statistics and advertising).

If you have rights under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, the EU/UK GDPR or another law, you can exercise them through the routes above. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Security

Everything between the app and the server travels over HTTPS. Passwords are stored hashed. Access to the server is restricted. No system is perfectly secure; if an incident ever affects you, we will tell you.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Parents may add a child's birth profile under their own account.

The website

jyotishapath.in is a static website. It sets no tracking cookies; only your language choice is remembered in the browser. Fonts load from Google Fonts and the site is served through Cloudflare, both of which see your IP address.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we update this page and the date below. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
